About

Club Mission

The Riddle Point Rowing Association (RPRA) is a community outreach organization that provides opportunities for individuals and families in the Monroe County area to learn, develop, and excel in the sport of rowing. RPRA strives to promote fairness, sportsmanship and participation, while providing coaching, education, recreational and competitive opportunities for its members.

Club Profile

RPRA is a member-based US Rowing sanctioned club, organized by individuals with a variety of rowing backgrounds who want to expand the sport of rowing in the Bloomington community, and who just love being on the water on a beautiful morning or evening. We welcome all members of the community who wish to enjoy the outdoor sport of rowing.

Directions from Bloomington

Drive East on highway 45 (10th Street out of Bloomington) about 7 miles to Tunnel Road and turn left. The new boathouse is located about 2.7 miles down Tunnel Road on the right. The right turn will be a small, gravel road just before getting to Riddle Point Park. If you get to Riddle Point Park, you have gone about 1/2 mile too far.

Club History

At the turn of the millenium, Riddle Point Rowing Association (RPRA) got started through the efforts of Kay and Rudy Fields and then IU Women's Rowing Coach, Mark Wilson. These intrepid founders were passionate about the sport and worked hard to make the club a reality.

At first Riddle Point rowed out of the Indiana University Aquatic Center on Lake Lemon. In 2006 Riddle Point Rowing Association was incorporated, and in the next year moved to its current location.  Club members built the dock sections at the IU site and floated them across the lake to where they are still anchored. At this time the hillside site was leveled to make a space to park a boat trailer, where the club stored its boats for a number of years. Soon RPRA began planning for a boat house in collaboration with the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington, including an erg-a-thon to raise money for construction. In 2015 they dedicated the Art and Wilma Hill Boathouse at Camp Rock.

RPRA supports both recreational and competitive rowers. In the early years, the club sent teams to the Eagle Regatt at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. During the aughts, the club hosted the LemonHead Regatta, and crews from aroud the midwest competed on Lake Lemon. Later, RPRA sponsored a junior rowing program for high school aged rowers. Currently RPRA is a masters club for adult scullers of all ages. Some of us prefer quads, others single sculls, but we all share a love for rowing!
